Day 1 in Osaka 玩游大阪 DAY 1

Our flight was at 8 a.m., but my brother and I were at the airport the night . We didn't really sleep at the airport, we just wandered around and had dinner there. Chin Yee met us there in the morning. It was my first flight (childhood does not count because I barely remembered) to a foreign country and I was excited and nervous at the same time. Thank God Chin Yee knew what to do because my brother and I were absolutely useless because we had never flown anywhere before.

I was in awe of everything and was even one of the people listening to the safety instruction thingy. When the plane took off, I was a bit nervous to see how far above the ground we were but after a while I was zen. I tried to sleep but I'm not sure how much I slept because I keep waking up.

After almost 6 hours, we finally arrived in Osaka!! I was kind of in awe at how big the place is and that there is a monorail/train thing to cart us to a different section of the airport. We immediately find the office to buy our ICOCA card. The ICOCA card is like TouchnGo so that we can take trains and bus more conveniently.

Here’s the ICOCA card we got:

After we bought our cards, we wanted to go to the apartment we rented. My brother already rented a wifi in KLIA so I used Google Map to find a way to our apartment. I already tagged a lot of the places we will be going on Google Map in advance, so it made the process much easier. Once we were out of the airport, I was in total bliss because the wind and air was cool and I absolutely loved it!

The public transport in Japan was really convenient because it could get us to all the places we wanted to go. We took a train to the apartment we rented. At the train station, there was a man selling daifuku, we bought some to try. I didn’t expect to like it because I am not a really huge fan of red bean, but I absolutely loved it! It was sweet but not too sweet and the mochi was so soft and chewy.

When we arrived at the apartment, it was much smaller than I imagined but since this was Japan so I wasn’t surprised. There was a refrigerator and a mini kitchen in our room, while my brother’s room had a balcony. Our host prepared towels and soap for us but I used my own towel because I assume the towels won’t fit me since I’m tall and big. The toilet and the bathroom were different rooms which was weird, but I didn’t really mind. There’s a washing machine in the bathroom, which was also super convenient. What I find amazing was the fact that the bathroom could also be a dryer that we hang our clothes to dry.

The picture below was our room, it was a bit messy because we were in a hurry and we’re not neat freaks so sue us!

After we dumped our luggage at the apartment, we decided to go exploring since it was not dark yet and we were way too excited to not do anything. We left our apartment and headed to Dotonbori.

When we got there, we went food hunting. I already tagged a few places to try in Dotonbori so we had a few choices to choose from. Our first stop was Dotonbori Konamon Museum. Here was what the shop looked like:

We ordered the ¥900 takoyaki and beer combo.
Overall, the takoyaki was much softer than the ones we have in Malaysia. The octopus was really big though and very chewy, almost raw –like. I did not really like it but maybe that’s just me.

After that, we head to another famous takoyaki place called Creo-ru. We went to their basement, which was really cool.

We ordered the following food:

¥700 Takoyaki with Worcester sauce:
This was really good. It was soft but not too soft and the octopus was just nice, not too raw like the one at Konamon Museum.

¥900 Pork Okonomiyaki:
There were a lot of veggies, the outer layer was hard but the inside was soft. I liked it.

¥830 Pork Yakisoba:
I liked the noodles because they were chewy and savoury.

¥ 1200Sinew Meat Negiyaki:
This was my favourite of this meal. It smelled fantastic and I loved the green onions in it. The teriyaki had meat and jelly-like substance in it which I’m guessing was the sinew. It was absolutely delicious.

After dinner, we went around the area exploring. We saw a food truck serving the 2nd best ice cream melon bread. My brother always did like melon bread so he went and bought one.

¥400 Melon bread with vanilla ice cream:
I had a small bite and I had to say it tasted really good. The bread was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, The vanilla ice cream was really good too.

Since we're in Dotonbori, we had to take a picture with Glico man!  He's an important landmark that we could not skip. He is a symbol of Osaka,  a symbol that screams ' I am in Osaka! '

Let me tell you,  it wasn't easy to take a picture with him. There were tons of people and we had to find an angle that has no glare. Phones and cameras when we tried taking selfie had glare reflected but if someone else takes a picture of us, it's fine.

Then, we explored some more before heading back to the apartment to sleep. Here's some bonus pictures around Dotonbori:
