Murder on the Orient Express @ Movie

I would like to begin by saying that I was hyped for this movie because I knew about the book. I actually have the book but never got around to reading it. Okay, that's a lie. After I found out the movie is coming out, I tried reading it. I only read the beginning before getting distracted by other stuff.  Anyway, I know that the book is about a detective. I love watching movies about a detective solving crime so I was excited to watch the movie.

When I finally saw the movie, I was disappointed. It was not horrible, don't get me wrong. It's just that I expected it to be more. The movie started off strong, it was fun and it really makes me like the detective. Then, somewhere along the way I started doubting my choice to like the detective. He's eccentric but not as lovable as Sherlock Holmes. Then again, it's kinda tough to be better than Robert Downey Jr.

As the movie progresses, the story gets weird. Before you continue reading, spoilers ahead! The movie starts off promising but sort of went downhill for me.  Some parts of the movie felt really awkward, like the scene of the detective eating cake with Ratchett. It is just downright weird but maybe it's just a culture/time period thing.

When Ratchett was murdered,  I wasn't exactly surprised since the movie already set him up as someone who had enemies. Besides that,  Johnny Depp has been getting roles that were pretty much cameos.  For example,  Into The Woods and Fantastic Beasts.  That's probably just me since I  have pretty much given up watching any Johnny Depp movies (him in any main roles)  since the disastrous Mortdecai.

Moving on, the supposedly plot twist wasn't much of a twist because I pretty much figured they were all in it when it was time for the big reveal. The story of a group of people working together is plausible but somehow I find it a bit comical.  I think it's probably because of the execution of the story.  The scene where they all stabbed the victim was a bit much for me.  I get that it was supposed to be dramatic but it just made me go 'really? '.

By that time,  I also lost any affection towards the eccentric detective. The detective started out promising. In fact,  I liked him after the first 5 minutes in the movie,  then he sort of changed.  He claimed there was only right and wrong,  which was the first strike.  Then, he rubbed me the wrong way the entire time he was on the train.  I'm probably overreacting but that's just how I feel.

I have to say I was very disappointed with the film. I guess I'm more of a Sherlock Holmes girl.   All in all,  I can't say it was horrible but I really wished I had watched Coco instead.
