I’m sure there are people who are reading and wondering what is SEA Games? For those who don’t know anything about SEA Games, here’s a small breakdown:

SEA Games stated as the Southeast Asia Peninsular (SEAP) Games in 1959 with only 7 members: Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma (now known as Myanmar), Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. At the time, there were only 12 sports being competed.  SEA Games was held every year to forge strong ties between the nations of South-east Asia.

Then, the ASEAN Para Games was introduced into SEA Games. It was first held in 2001 when Malaysia was the host. The ASEAN Para Games is a biannual multi-sport event held after every Southeast Asian Games for Southeast Asian athletes with physical disabilities.

SEA Games had humble beginnings and has since grown to become the biggest multi-sport spectacle of the region. It now has 11 members, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippine, Timor Leste, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.

Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) is the brand name of the 29th SEA Games 2017. The SEA Games will take place between 19th and 30th August 2017. The ASEAN Para Games will be held from 17th September to 23rd September 2017. Amazingly, this event coincides with Malaysia’s Independence Day and Malaysia Day!


也许有些人对于东南亚运动会的了解不深，我们在这里就给大家做个小小的介绍吧！

东南亚运动会（Southeast Asian Games，缩写：SEA Games）是一个两年一度的大型综合性地区体育赛事，成立于1959年。
这个运动会是由东南亚半岛的6个国家（泰国，缅甸，马来亚（马来西亚前身），老挝，南越和柬埔寨（以及此后的新加坡））所开创的。直到今天，已经有11个参赛国家了。这些国家都一致同意每两年轮流举办运动会。原本今年应该是轮到汶莱举办，但他们却选择主办下一届的运动会，而马来西亚也自愿接下这个重任作为2017年的主办国。
这个运动会的最终目的并不是争得你死我活，而是借由体育加强各国之间的理解和联系感情，并共同提高竞技水平。

为了向奥林匹克运动会看齐，委员会也决定于2001年举办一个能够让身心残缺的运动员参与的运动会--东盟残疾人运动会（ASEAN Para Games）。这个运动会也会由东南亚运动会的主办国包办，通常都是在东南亚运动会结束后的一段时期里举行。
除了能够让残疾运动员借着这个机会为残疾人奥林匹克运动会备战之外，委员会也希望能通过运动让更多残疾人士找回信心，并且重新融入以及归纳社会。更重要的是促进东南亚残疾运动员之间的友谊和团结。

第29届东南亚运动会将于8月19日至30日举行，而第9届东盟残疾人运动会会在9月17日至23日举行。这也恰好是马来西亚国庆日（8月31日）以及马来西亚日（9月16日）前后，到时的场面肯定更加盛大壮观。


As the host of this year’s SEA Games, we have a kickass logo based on the Wau Bulan! Pretty, no?

既然主办了运动会，少不了的当然就是主题、会徽以及吉祥物啦~
“共同成长”（马来语：Bangkit Bersama，英语：Rising Together）是这一届东南亚运动会的主题，象征各国作为共同体一起面对眼前以及未来的种种挑战。
至于会徽，委员会采用了从174个参赛作品中脱颖而出的马来风筝（Wau）图案，马来风筝是马来西亚独有的月形风筝。

We even have a cute mascot inspired by our very own Malayan Tiger and is called Rimau, which apparently stands for Respect, Integrity, Move, Attitude and Unity.

吉祥物呢，则是用了马来亚虎为蓝本而设计，更取名为“Rimau”。它代表着Respect, Integrity, Move, Attitude and Unity。

We will also have a baton run, which is the first time such an event is organised by a hosting country in the history of SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. Kind of like the Olympics! Heck, even the name is so cool! It’s called The Rising Together Baton Run. Man…Malaysia is going all out!! So be sure not to miss out!
